Conor Clyne: Eastern European Travels and Experiences

Uh, we had, we talked about methods with um, Mike from Glossika, Mike Campbell. We're very into a linguist mood there, talking about academia, uh, academic research on language learning. And then I had my friend Dave on, and we talked a lot about what kind of language learning philosophies or mentalities that one has, and maybe some of the struggles also related to comparing oneself to other learners, how to actually avoid frustration and, and maybe figuring out what you really want to do with languages.

So, so I thought a little breakup would be nice with Conor today because Conor, he has shifted some of his perspective. He was, uh, like I said, formerly known as the language Tsar, and he came on the show a few years back to talk about how he managed to learn a lot of languages. I think he, he, he knows more than 10 to a pretty good level now. And he shifted more into a sort of a travel, um, dating, relationships, uh, that kind of thing, uh, today called the Tsar experience. So it's more of a, a full package, I guess, where of course language learning is a huge part of it, and he still really, uh, contends that he gets these really amazing experiences particularly in Eastern Europe because of his language learning abilities that he'd put so much work into before.

Um, but that's also the goal here in the podcast. I want to show not only how to learn languages, but also, or I mean how people have learned languages. Uh, but I also want to show what you can actually do with them. So this episode today is about Conor's experiences in Eastern Europe, uh, particularly because that's the place in the world he's very fond of and he's spent a lot of time in. So that's why it's kind of central.

Obviously, Conor's experience is unique to him and you know, your experience might vary as we'll look into in the episode and, and obviously he can't speak for all, uh, genders, races, or people from all around the world, but I think, I still think it's interesting to listen to Conor's, uh, stories because sometimes they can be a little bit crazy, uh, compared to, uh, you know, uh, the rest of the world. So, I hope you enjoyed this kind of a intermediate, uh, episode with Conor about, uh, what you can use your languages for and some tips about traveling in Eastern Europe, in case you want to explore those areas before they get too touristy by globalization.
