AFP 34 – Conor Clyne: From monoglot to hyperpolyglot

(Last Updated On: April 27, 2020)

I'm very excited to welcome onto the show Mr Conor Clyne, who you might know better as The Language Tsar!

photo-3I've been deeply fascinated by Conor for a while, particularly his multilingual YouTube videos so it was a great honor and privilege to get to pick his brain about language learning for a good length of time.

Conor has a similar story to Benny Lewis in that he came out of high school knowning only English. He has since taken massive revenge and now speaks some 10-12 languages, depending on what your definition of speaks is. His languages include unusual choices such as Catalan, Romanian and Ukrainian.

In the episode we get into a lot of language learning related tips and tricks, how to learn while on the road, what methods, and how to maintain your languages when you get to hyperpolyglot-stages.

This is one of my favourite episodes I have ever done. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks to Conor for taking the time to share his wisdom and experiences.

Next Week

Since me and Connor had so much fun talking about learning languages, I've had to split the episode in two. Next week we get into specific situations I'm currently troubled by (Tips for learning Russian) and also how to use the language in practice. I share a slightly embarrasing story when I met a Russian girl in the library, and much other good stuff. Stay tuned!
