AFP 105 – Lydia Machova on Language Mentoring

Time for another Actual Fluency Podcast! This week I talk to Lydia Machova about her experiences learning languages, interpreting, and her concept of language mentoring.

Lydia Machova

I first heard about Lydia at a Polyglot Gathering a few years ago where she had held a practical interpreting workshop, so participants could get a feel for how it was to actually interpret. As many found out it wasn't as easy as just speaking two languages well 🙂

Her talks on interpreting, learning languages, and language mentoring have been highly popular in the community, and has made her a local celebrity in her home country of Slovakia.

In the episode I ask her about her experiences learning many languages, and we cover areas such as interpreting for a career, academic language learning, and also language mentoring – which is her unique method to support people learning languages.
